State Forester Issues Stage II Fire Restrictions

The Arizona State Forester has issued the following Fire Restrictions for all Arizona State Parks:

  • Building, maintaining, attending, or using a fire, campfire, charcoal, coal, or wood stove including
    fires in developed campgrounds or improved sites is prohibited. Exemptions include persons using
    a device solely fueled by liquid petroleum or LPG fuels that can be turned on and off. Such devices
    can only be used in an area that is barren or cleared of all overhead and surrounding flammable
    materials within 3 feet of the device.
  • Smoking is prohibited unless it is within an enclosed vehicle or building.
  • Discharging a firearm except while engaged in a lawful hunt pursuant to state, federal, or tribal
    laws and regulations is prohibited. The exemption to this is that the discharging of firearms is
    allowed on agency designated shooting ranges.
  • The discharging or using of any kind of fireworks and incendiary devices is prohibited.
  • The following mechanical and industrial activities are prohibited:
    o  Operating any internal combustion engine.
    o  Welding, or operating acetylene or other torch with open flame.
    o  Using an explosive.

Article: Caching in: Nearly 100 Flock to Geocache Desert Bash Saturday

Friday’s stormy conditions gave way to a sunny, cool Saturday morning, which was ideal for the nearly 100 people that flocked to the Seventh Annual Geocache Desert Bash. Many winter visitors, a few younger individuals and a couple families with young children joined in on the fun Saturday [March 9, 2013] at Cattail Cove State Park. Although they weren’t in competition with each other, participants appeared anxious to conduct their treasure hunt using handheld Global Positioning Systems.

“It’s a beautiful morning for it,” said Gary Peaslee, Park Manager at Cattail Cove, south of Lake Havasu City off of State Route 95. “It’s a lot of fun.” Read complete story at Today's News-Herald website External Link

The beach, boat ramp, and 61 campsites at Cattail Cove State Park offer a broad spectrum of activities for all to enjoy. Whether you're interested in swimming, fishing or just lounging and relaxing, Cattail Cove State Park offers you and your family a chance to get away and enjoy tranquility along Lake Havasu. The 2,000-acre park has been operated by the Arizona State Parks Board since 1970.

Lake Havasu was formed when the Colorado River was dammed near Parker. The 45-mile long lake creates a haven for all kinds of water sports. Fish for largemouth and striped bass, channel & flathead catfish, bluegill and crappie. Boat on the blue waters, sail into quiet coves, or water ski or jet ski out on the open lake.

If campgrounds are not your style and you have your own boat, you can motor out to one of the 28 campsites along the water's edge. You can also rent boats and campsites with trailers at Sandpoint Marina and RV Park, as well as have dinner at Sandpoint's cafe.

The area surrounding the park is also a rock hound's paradise. Volcanic rock, geodes, jaspers, obsidian, turquoise and agate can be found outside Lake Havasu City.
